Support
Need a hand? Here's how to get help and answers to the most common questions.
Contact us
- Email: support@tryopenfi.com
- Privacy / data requests: privacy@tryopenfi.com
- During the beta, the fastest help and updates are in our community channel (link is in your TestFlight invite).
We aim to reply within a couple of business days.
Connecting your bank
- Add a bank: open Accounts → Add Account → Connect Account and follow the secure Plaid flow.
- Big banks (Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Capital One, …): you'll be sent to your bank's own website to log in, then returned to OpenFi automatically. Complete the bank login in the browser tab that opens, then come back to the app.
- A connection stopped working? The account row in Accounts shows a Reconnect button — click it and re-authenticate. Your history and categories are preserved.
- Disconnect a bank: open the account and choose Disconnect Bank — this revokes access and removes that bank's data from your Mac.
Transactions & sync
- OpenFi syncs automatically; you can also trigger a manual sync from the Accounts view.
- Missing or duplicate transactions? Run a manual sync first; if it persists, reconnect the bank. Transactions you've reviewed keep their categories.
- Categories: AI assigns a category to each transaction and learns from your corrections — fix one and similar transactions improve over time.
AI features (the Oracle & categorization)
- Bring-your-own-key (BYOK): add your Google Gemini API key in Settings → API Keys, and AI features turn on.
- Included by default: AI works out of the box on your subscription — no key needed.
- Ask the Oracle plain-English questions like "how much did I spend on groceries last month?"
Your privacy & your data
- Local-first: your financial data lives in a database on your Mac, not on our servers. See the Privacy Policy.
- Encryption: your local database is encrypted at rest with SQLCipher (AES-256), and its key — like your bank connection tokens and API keys — is stored in the macOS Keychain, not in the database. We additionally recommend enabling FileVault for full-disk encryption.
- Export: export your data to CSV anytime from within the app.
- Delete everything: use Settings → Account → Delete Account & All Data to revoke linked institutions and erase your login, billing customer, server records, Keychain secrets, and local database. If that flow is unavailable, email privacy@tryopenfi.com.
Billing
- Annual subscription: one plan at $99/year, with bank sync, brokerage sync and AI included.
- Your own AI key (optional): you can supply your own Google Gemini key in Settings → API Keys at any time. That changes only where AI requests go — it is not a separate plan and the price is the same.
- Manage or cancel, yourself: in the app, open Settings → Support → Manage or Cancel Subscription. That opens Stripe's billing portal in your browser, where you can cancel, update your card, and download invoices — no email needed.
- When cancellation takes effect: cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep full access until the end of the billing period you have already paid for.
- On the free public beta? There is no subscription and no card on file, so there is nothing to cancel.
- See the Terms of Service for refund details, or email support@tryopenfi.com if the portal will not open for you.
Reporting a bug (beta)
- Use TestFlight's built-in feedback (take a screenshot in the app, then "Share Beta Feedback") — it sends us the screenshot plus device + build info.
- Or email support@tryopenfi.com with what you were doing and what happened.
- Bug reports are hugely helpful during the beta — thank you!
